This is a great game for playing at Duke of Edinburgh if you have a few minutes left at the end of the night. It’s just the normal game of “Stop the bus!” but the categories are changed to reflect the sorts of things that you might take with you or see on an expedition. Everybody writes the categories down the side of their piece of paper, someone picks a letter (normally by going through the alphabet in their head), there’s a race to find one thing for each category beginning with the chosen letter and the first person finished shouts “Stop the bus!”. For scoring it’s 2 points for a unique answer and 1 point for an answer that someone else also has. So… here are some category suggestions:
- A piece of kit that you’d pack in your rucksack
- A foodstuff
- A sweetie
- A drink
- The name of a river
- The name of a country
- The name of a mountain
- An animal
- A plant or a tree
- A weather term
- A map term or thing you’d find on a map
